a few hundred pounds already.
In the last war,
in the least of the Malay States, Brunei, the
handful of the European community voluntarily imposed
on themselves an income tax for presentation to
H.M.G. for the prosecution of the war, which realised
a sum of £285, and I have no doubt they were very
proud of it.
Sir Shenton Thomas in his recent personal
letter to the Secretary of State with regard to an
improvement of the B.B.C. programmes included a
sentence as follows, which I believe to be no less
important for conson. in the present connection: -
"All the Empire wants is to feel that it is really a living part of the mother country, to have a share in her life: we ought not to be kept aloof as we are."
Extrant.
